Experience
My students are from ACJC,PJJC,MI,private candidates, ASRJC,YIJC,PJJC
For Economics
The most impactful way to realize and apply concepts is through reading and emphasising on answers made by MOE educators in past year exam papers. By going through exam papers, I help the student to understand how every sentence written is constructive for the argument and helps him/her avoid ramble. Going through past year papers also allows students to effectively revise past concepts and gives some understanding to what examiners want to specifically see in a answer.
A good framework of concepts, definitions and ideas must be first realised through revision of given top RIJC notes, then to reinforce these ideas through practice and application in essays and CSQs (past prelim papers). Practice makes perfect, I have tutored kids (total 26 kids whom have graduated for the last 3 years) from the lower tier of JC’s (YIJC, PJJC,MI) and VJC, ACJC,TJC applying this technique and they have received A’s at Prelims, A levels. I currently tutor 9 students across the range of JCs in Singapore, and they are taking their A levels in 2019.
For Mathematics: The most impactful way to teach mathematics is through practice and I like to go through topical series prelim papers where students will attempt the assignment for me in their own time (learning by doing). By doing so, we get to kill a few birds with one stone- 1) revise concepts, 2) gain exposure to greater breadth, depth, difficulty of questions and 3) experience to know specifically what to do and not to do during exams (math is a exam paper where good habits goes a long way, specifically, we can identify the techniques/habits that students must practice in answer writing to avoid careless mistakes).Â
