I graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor's Degree of Science. I am very well-versed with the Singapore education system, which has been producing the best people in Mathematics. I have scored 'A's for Mathematics from Primary School, all the way to University. I graduated from National Junior College with 'A' in Mathematics C and went on to major Statistics in University. I have conducted 1-to-1 home tuition for students from Primary 6 to Secondary 5, improving their Mathematics results immensely, and most importantly, increasing their interest in the subject. I believe that it is the teacher's job to make concepts come to life, clarify any doubts a student has, and be very patient in answering every question. A teacher has to be aware of every student's specific weaknesses in the subject and I understand how this is not impossible in a classroom setting. A private 1-to-1 tuition is meant to cater for an individual student's needs, to have all the time and attention on him/ her. Most importantly, the student needs to feel he/ she has the support from the tutor, not just in the academic subject, but life in general. I believe in a holistic approach towards teaching. I build rapport and trust with my students; I have handled students who would not sit still, who could not focus, and I have also handled students who would not ask any question at all. I have my ways of dealing with every situation and I believe in helping every student shine and develop their full potential.

Hello, my name is Lay Cheng. I have a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from National University of Singapore (NUS). I have been tutoring Mathematics for the past 8 years, during which I also accumulated 3.5 years of instruction experience at a Kumon Learning Centre. Over these years, I have built rapport with students between the ages of 8 to 20. As it is important to ensure that the sessions address the concerns of the students and their parents, communication is essential. I have lesson plans but am open to discuss and adjust according to my students’ needs. Hence, I will contact my students regularly and do advance preparation so that the lessons may be engaging. Other than focusing on their academic ability, I believe that it is important to pay attention to their motivation levels, learning styles and mental health as well so that I may get to know them on a personal level.
