I have been tutoring my friends and peers at school pro bono for the last 5 years, both in person and online through Facebook or Skype. I have mainly helped them with Cambridge IGCSEs and International Baccalaureate material. I tutor mainly Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics, and everyone I have tutored has seen an improvement in their grades. My teaching method involves guiding the student through the method and reasoning required to answer a question to enhance their understanding and improve their ability to answer similar questions in the future. I also observe how the student approaches a problem themself and then explain what they should do differently to better answer the question. If there are any gaps in their knowledge, I ensure I cover them.

Teaching Method:
I prefer starting the lesson with any questions/doubts the student might have from school homework/self revision. Instead of diving straight to the answer, I will guide the student through his/her doubts by asking questions that will lead him/her closer to the question. After addressing all the doubts and questions, I will proceed to revise the topic that his/her school teacher is teaching at the moment followed by going through the fundamentals of the next topic so that the student can get a head start.

I have been tutoring my siblings and classmates in various subjects (English, Math, Science, etc.) unofficially when they require my assistance. My brother's Chemistry has improved from B3 to A1 under my tutelage and he has topped his class in this subject on two occasions. My ex-student was able to pass her Sec 3 Math common test for the first time after a month of tuition. I have also been tutoring a foreign student in the English language for the past two years. He only picked up English after arriving to begin his studies at Hwa Chong International and has since been placed in the second best class for the subject in Year 3. I hope to be able to help others achieve their academic goals and, consequently, allow them to feel confident enough in their abilities to make their own academic decisions.
