The transition from Kindergarten to Primary One is an important milestone in your child’s life. It can be an exciting experience and at the same time, a stressful one for parents. Apart from learning subjects at a deeper level, your child has to adjust to a new environment and exercise a greater degree of independence.
Below are ways that can better prepared parents and your child to adjust to primary school education:
1. Establish a routine
Set up the routine to get your child used to going to bed early and waking up early.
Fix a timetable for homework, rest and play so that your child can learn about self-discipline and knowing how to organise his time in a better way.
2. Communication
Spend some time together talking about what primary school will be like so that your child knows what to expect. Encourage your child to share any concerns that they might have and address them together. Excite your child with new experiences, such as making new friends and learning new things.
3. Skill training
Soft skills - The basis of a successful relationship can be done by imparting good social and communication skills such as asking for permission and taking turns to do something.
Physical skills - A good start will help a child to stay on the right track in their education. In Primary One, children will have to start completing formal and scored assignments, hence It is never too early to start preparing your child by getting a tutor to build a strong foundation towards academic preparations.
In conclusion, preparing for Primary One is the beginning of a new phrase of life for you and your child. By looking at a broader view to develop a child’s skills in all related areas, you can better ease your child into the primary school education system.
