Experience
I am a current Hindi Society teacher.
From NTU Bioengineering Final Year (current GPA 4.75). Previously from NUS HIGH (graduated with high distinction)
My students were from South View, Kranji, etc. Subjects were hindi, math and science ranging from pri 3 to sec 2.
All of them had an improvement barring one. One was failing but was able to get D grade in PSLE with less than a year of tuition under me for math. Another went from A to A*. For the student who was not improving, their grades fell drastically after I left, which I found out after talking to his mother months later.
I also taught my friends and siblings over the last few years. Their age ranged from lower primary to JC and I taught them English, Math and the Sciences. Furthermore, I volunteered at Pei Tong Primary School for a semester, where I taught lower primary students English and Math. My friends, siblings and the students I taught at Pei Tong all made considerable improvements in their studies.
Graduating with a High Distinction from NUS High, one of the top Math and Science schools in the world, I can confidently say that I would be able to teach the students with conviction in the subjects that I have indicated. While in NUS High, I was also offered to take chemistry modules at NUS itself. At NUS High, we are taught an accelerated programme and even university level modules in High School. As part of our graduation requirement, we are also required to do a research project, which involves making a research poster and a research paper. I did my research project at the National University of Singapore. I believe I would be able to do a good job as a teacher.
Personally, I have gotten the gold award at the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (SMOPS) and represented Singapore in Robotics on multiple occasions. I also debated in the parliament for the Moot Parliament Programme (MPP), a prestigious competition organised by the Gifted Education Branch of MOE, where we won the best debating team. Lastly, I have also taken part and won awards in various Scrabble competitions.
As a tutor, my focus will not be on the student completing his work but rather him/her understanding what they have done so that they can repeat it without any assistance. I strongly believe in the following quote - 'Chase success and you will trample. Chase excellence and success will come running behind you!' With this mindset, I hope to impart the joy of learning to my students so that they will be self-motivated to achieve the very best. And I plan to do this by being a friend more than a formal teacher with the students simply because that would be the best way to connect with them.
